FARMERS’ Welsh Lavender Guide to Farming Gifts for Christmas 2024

As the holiday season approaches, searching for the right present for that hardworking farmer in your life can be challenging.

Now, despite our name, our products are not actually only for farmers. As we are in the rural idyll of mid Wales, perched high on a wild Welsh hilltop, we at FARMERS’ Welsh Lavender have insight into the rugged resilience of farmers and their families and what it takes to thrive here. We’re in the perfect position to provide a little inspiration. We’ve curated a selection of products from the luxurious to the practical that we hope will make perfect presents for your loved ones, inspired by the very people who work these Welsh hills.

Gifts Inspired by the Farming Way of Life

FARMERS’ Foot Cream: For hardworking feet

Farmers jumped for our hand cream when we launched it 2012. They found it effective and nourishing for their hands and loved that it wasn’t greasy. Soon after, a group called Farm Wives came to visit our lavender farm. We asked their advice on what we should make next. They unanimously said “foot cream!” That’s how FARMERS’ foot cream joined the ranks.

It’s not surprising. Trudging through muddy fields in heavy, sweaty rubber boots and exposure to all the elements puts farmers’ feet under constant stress. A high-quality foot cream is essential, providing much-needed relief and protection to keep farmers’ feet comfortable and healthy. Our rich, non-greasy lavender foot cream moisturises, conditions and nourishes feet.  It is packed with healing oils: lavender, rosemary, peppermint, tea tree, castor and calendula. They all help to mend cracked heels whilst softening feet and a little goes a very long way.

FARMERS’ hand cream is an essential for hardworking hands, whether it’s to help endure long days outside in the winter chill or as an everyday comfort. Farmers often work outside for long hours exposing their hands to harsh elements that can result in dry, cracked skin. Our high-quality hand cream is an ideal Christmas gift for farmers.

FARMERS’ Hand Cream is crafted to deliver the nourishment and protection for hardworking hands. It is enriched with unrefined shea and cocoa butters, rice bran oil, and virgin olive oil to soften and condition even the toughest skin. The essential oils of lavender, rosemary, and peppermint provide a refreshing scent and offer therapeutic benefits for weary hands. This thoughtful gift helps farmers maintain healthy skin, ensuring they can continue their work comfortably and efficiently, regardless of the season.

More Ideas for Practical Farming Gifts for Christmas

Farmers often need to balance various requirements to ensure the smooth operation of their farm. Practical gifts that simplify their lives are always appreciated. Here are a few useful ideas:

  1. A durable phone case is an essential gift for farmers who need to protect their devices from the rough and tumble of farm life. Choose a sturdy design, ideally military grade, to ensure their phone stays safe while they navigate through fields or handle livestock.
  2. A walking stick or staff is a reliable companion for farmers as they traverse their land. This practical gift offers support and stability, making it easier to walk across uneven terrain.
  3. A dog whistle is a perfect present for farmers who work alongside their canine companions. It aids in training and communication, ensuring farmer and dog work efficiently together.
  4. A flask or thermos, perhaps filled with a homemade treat like sloe gin, is an ideal gift for farmers who spend long hours outdoors. It will also keep a favourite hot drink hot, providing comfort and enjoyment on chilly workdays.

Durable Workwear: Help Farmers Stay Warm and Dry

Farmers face the elements head-on, and having the right workwear is essential for comfort and safety. A good quality pair of overalls is a staple in any farmer’s wardrobe, offering protection and durability that withstand the rigours of farm work. Overalls are practical and show you understand the demands of a farmer’s daily life. Our very own Rich loves his new overalls from Hay and Brecon Farmers Store.

When the weather turns cold and wet, a warm and waterproof jacket is indispensable. This piece of clothing ensures farmers stay warm and dry, no matter how harsh the conditions, a considered gift to help your favourite farmer stay comfortable while they work.

Sturdy, warm and comfy boots are another must-have for any farmer. They provide the necessary support and protection for long hours spent on their feet, navigating uneven terrain and mucky barn floors. A pair of high-quality boots is a practical gift that will be appreciated every day especially when paired with a jar of FARMERS’ FOOT CREAM.

Don’t forget the smaller items that make a big difference, like a good hat and gloves. These protect farmers from the sun and cold, adding an extra layer of comfort and safety. Practical gifts show you care about their well-being in every season.

Farm-Made and Local Gifts

Family-run farms often produce farm-made and local gifts, adding a personal touch reflecting tradition and heritage. Choosing these gifts is a wonderful way to support local artisans and farmers while providing a unique and welcome present. Here are some ideas for farm-made and local gifts:

Artisan Foods and Crafts: Support Local Artisans

There’s something special about gifts that come directly from family-run farms. A basket of fresh, locally-grown produce is a delightful gift that offers a taste of the best that the local area has to offer. It celebrates the bounty of the land and the hard work of local farmers.

Homemade jams and honey are another sweet treat that make for a perfect gift. These goods are made with love and care, capturing the flavours of the season in a jar. Another popular sweet treat that goes down well is chocolate such as our very own FARMERS’ Chocolate. Pablo Spaull of Forever Cacao makes this bar for us using 72% unroasted dark chocolate and lavender oil distilled on our farm. Pablo sources single origin heirloom cacao from Peru, trading directly with local growers.

Handmade crafts, such as knitted scarves and wooden spoons, are unique gifts that showcase the skill and craftsmanship of local artisans. These items are one-of-a-kind, made with dedication and artistry – something your farmer will appreciate.

For those who enjoy a good drink, a bottle of locally-made wine or beer is a fantastic gift. It offers a taste of the local area’s best brews, perfect for unwinding after a long day on the farm. It’s a gift that supports local producers and brings cheer to the holiday season.

By choosing farm-made and local gifts, you’re not only giving something unique and special but also supporting local farmers and artisans. It’s a way to celebrate the spirit of farming and the beauty of local craftsmanship.
